INBAR will have a significant organizational presence at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, which is expected to attract 70 to 80 million visitors and will be the largest expo the world has ever seen. From 1 May to 31 October 2010, INBAR's visually striking pavilion will showcase how INBAR and bamboo and rattan enriches peoples' lives around the world to some 100,000 visitors mostly from mainland China - an average of 500 people on each of the 184 days of the expo.
The centerpiece of INBAR's pavilion is a structure made out of high-end bamboo-based panels modeled after the historic Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The design will challenge traditional perceptions of bamboo and rattan-rather than expecting arts and crafts, visitors will be greeted with a striking, visual demonstration of bamboo and rattan creative, innovative, high-end products. Dynamic and interactive exhibits and an energetic team of bilingual staff will introduce visitors to INBAR's work around the world and innovative bamboo and rattan solutions for sustainable living. INBAR's pavilion will respond to the expo's 'Better City, Better Life' theme by focusing on how bamboo and rattan offer pro-poor, environmentally solutions for urban and rural living around the world.
The INBAR pavilion is located at the heart of the 5.28 square kilometer expo site, on the banks of the Huangpu River in downtown Shanghai in the International Organizations Joint Pavilion in Zone B. INBAR is one of more than 180 nations and organizations taking part in the Expo.
